How We Began

In 1987 a pioneering local group, consisting of Barbara Curd, Helen Hutchinson and Dr Andrew Bodham-Whetham - later joined by Bishop John Gibbs, identified the need for a hospice in South Gloucestershire. The Cotswold Care Project was born and an appeal to purchase premises and to finance the Hospice’s first year launched. Thanks to massive support from the local community, and hard work from the volunteers who have always been the Hospice’s mainstay, the dream took just three years to come true.

Lady Westmorland became the first President and Prince Charles, who officially opened the Day Hospice in December 1990, is our very active Patron. His recent involvement included sponsored polo matches, a reception for GPs at Highgrove and regular visits to the Hospice to meet the patients. People
